Does Acupuncture Really Work?

Every acupuncturist gets asked certain questions over and over and over. It might seem obvious to those of us who have studied the topic for thousands of hours but to individuals who are new to  acupuncture, there are commonly asked questions. One of the most popular questions I get asked is "Does acupuncture really work?" Yes, acupuncture really works.  Here are two undeniable reasons why:

1.  It has stood the test of time...for five thousand years! In comparison, Hippocrates, better knows as the father or Western Medicine began approximately 2,000 years ago. Current practice of modern medicine, what you get today, has only been around for about 70 years. Treatments that don't work, fade out over time or get banned for safety reasons. One third of the drugs given out today will be pulled from the shelves in less than 25 years because they are more dangerous than helpful.  Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, on the other hand, is getting more popular and is being introduced all over the world.

2. It works on animals. Horses, Dogs, cats. They love it and get effective, measurable results for health conditions. And in my opinion, there is no way your pet can have a placebo effect. They don't know why there are needles in their skin or what those needles are supposed to do. If the needles hurt or scared the animal in anyway the treatment would not be possible. It's actually quite obvious that they enjoy it. A horse, for example, relaxes its hips, rolls its hooves, lets its lips hang and lowers its eyes sleepily during a treatment. Take a look at this video and see for yourself.

If five thousand years of use and effective treatment of animals is not enough proof for you there are many scientific studies being done showing acupuncture and Chinese herbs are often more effective than conventional treatments. Here are a few examples:
