Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, also known as PTSD, is an anxiety disorder that can develop after a person is exposed to a traumatic event. Most of us think of war veterans when we hear about PTSD but anyone involved in an ordeal with violence, trauma, or a disaster could become afflicted with the disruptive symptoms of PTSD including persistent fear and terror, depression, insomnia, anxiety and anger. For example, a few months ago my very dear friend was held at gunpoint and robbed after a long shift where she is a manager at a restaurant. Her specific issues were insomnia, extreme anxiety, panic at closing time, she even had trouble leaving the house for several weeks. She took full advantage of the counseling her employers offered but was still having difficulty in her day-to-day life. So, she began acupuncture treatments and started a regimen of taking a Chinese herbal formula. After a few weeks, she was back to work and only needed to take the herbs occasionally. The combination of counseling, acupuncture and herbs was extremely effective.

Acupuncture works to calm the nervous system and takes each individual and their unique situation into account when creating a treatment protocol. This is why acupuncture and herbs work amazingly well for stress and anxiety. PTSD is just a very severe form. The benefits of acupuncture are beginning to catch on. According to Natural News, the U.S. Department of Defense is employing counseling programs and is exploring alternative treatments, including acupuncture in an effort to find new ways to effectively fight PTSD.  Innovative PTSD programs launched at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas have combined alternative therapies and traditional treatments for soldiers with PTSD. The Department of Defense has said that early results from these programs have been extremely positive.
